Walking With The Word
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ — Cycle A
John 6:51–58
There are some words of Jesus that ask us to slow down.
Not rush past them.
Not explain them too quickly.
Not pretend they are easy.
Just slow down and sit with them.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus says:
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven.”
And then He goes even deeper.
He tells us that the bread He will give is His flesh for the life of the world.
That is not a small sentence.
Maybe it is one of those places in Scripture where we simply have to stand quietly for a moment and let the mystery be larger than our words.
At every Mass, Christ does not give us only a reminder of His love.
He gives us Himself.
His Body.
His Blood.
His life poured out for us.
And maybe that is why Corpus Christi feels so tender.
God does not love us from far away.
He comes near.
Near enough for the hungry soul.
Near enough for the weary heart.
Near enough for the person who comes forward without perfect words, but with open hands.
Jesus does not say, “I will give you an idea.”
He says, “I am the living bread.”
Bread for the journey.
Bread for the weak.
Bread for the sinner.
Bread for the one still learning how to trust.
And perhaps today, we can simply let that truth rest in the heart.
The Lord who made heaven and earth makes Himself small enough to come to us in the Eucharist.
Small enough to be held.
Near enough to be received.
Merciful enough to feed us again and again.
Where in your life do you need the Living Bread today?
Lord Jesus,
Living Bread come down from heaven,
feed what is hungry in us,
strengthen what is weak,
and help us receive You with humble and grateful hearts.
