The Sacred Heart Still Teaches
Reflections Along the Sacred Heart Path
The first window invited us to reach.
The second invited us to seek.
The third asked us to notice.
The fourth brought us to the table.
Now the last window opens.
There is a vine.
It rises quietly from the earth, held by a simple support, turning toward the light.
It does not seem to be in a hurry. It grows as living things do, a little at a time.
Maybe that is closer to real growth than we like to admit.
Most of us do not become free all at once. We loosen one fear, tell the truth about something,
or outgrow an old way of hiding. Sometimes the change is so quiet we
barely notice it until we look back and realize we are standing in a different place.
Jesus once spoke to His friends about a vine.
“I am the vine, you are the branches.”
I imagine those words did not sound complicated at first. A vine and its branches.
A life flowing quietly from one into the other. The sort of thing they had seen all their lives.
But perhaps you and I know how much can be hidden inside simple words.
A branch does not become itself by breaking away from the life that feeds it.
It grows because it remains close enough to receive what it needs.
Maybe wise freedom begins to make sense there.
We can spend so much of life trying to prove we can stand alone.
Or we may do the opposite and stay so careful, so dutiful, so afraid of change,
that we forget growth is part of being alive.
Somewhere along the way, we begin to learn that freedom does not have to mean standing apart
from love. Maybe it is simply learning to stay close to Christ while becoming
more honestly ourselves.
The final window seems to understand this. The vine is supported, but not trapped.
It has room to grow, but it is not left to wander without direction.
It turns toward the light in its own living way.
You and I are still learning that kind of freedom.
We are still learning what to hold with open hands. We are still learning what may be released.
We are still learning how God grows a soul without forcing it.
The Sacred Heart is gentle with us. He does not pull our souls open before it is ready.
He gives enough light for the next bit of growth, and somehow, quietly, the life continues.
Perhaps this is where the five windows have been leading.
A hand reached toward mercy. A mind opened to truth. Compassion learned to move.
A table made room for others. And now a vine grows toward the light.
At the center is the Heart that has been teaching all along.
We do not finish because we have become complete. We finish as people still being formed,
still learning how to remain close to the One who gives us life.
The final window is open now. The vine keeps reaching toward the light.
And perhaps, quietly, so do we.
The Window’s Invitation
Before you leave this final window, notice one place in your life where God may be inviting growth.
Not every place. Only one.
Open your hands gently, as though making room.
Ask for the grace to stay close to Christ and grow toward the light.
