Walking With The Word – Trinity Sunday

Walking With  The Word

Quiet Blue Mountain With Three Heavenly Lights Against A Blue Foggy BackdropTrinity Sunday
Exodus 34:4b–6, 8–9

Moses goes up the mountain carrying the two stone tablets.

He does not go empty-handed.
He carries the signs of the covenant.

He carries the weight of a people who have
struggled,
wandered,
doubted,
and sinned.

And there, on the mountain, the Lord comes down in a cloud.

What a beautiful image.
God does not remain far away.
He comes near.

And when the Lord reveals His name,
He does not begin with power or punishment.
He begins with mercy.

Merciful. Gracious.
Slow to anger.
Rich in kindness
and faithfulness.

Maybe that is one of the gentlest ways to enter the mystery of the Holy Trinity.

Not as something we have to fully explain.
Not as a puzzle we have to solve.
But as Love drawing near.

Father.
Son.
Holy Spirit.

A communion of Love that does not stay distant,
but comes toward us with mercy,
kindness, and faithfulness.

Moses bows down in worship,
but he also dares to ask something tender and bold:

Lord, come with us.

He knows the people are stubborn.
He knows they have failed.
He knows they are not easy to lead.

And still he asks God to stay close.

Maybe that is one of the most comforting parts of this reading.

God does not draw near only to perfect people.
He draws near to
the wandering,
the weary,
the stubborn,
and the still-learning.

And perhaps that is the prayer we carry today too.

Lord, come with us.

Come with us into our homes.
Come with us into our decisions.
Come with us into the places where we are tired, uncertain, or trying to begin again.

Where in your life do you need to pray those simple words today?

Lord, come with us.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
May the God of mercy, kindness, and faithfulness walk with us today.
