Whether you have studied the Bible for years or are just beginning to open its pages, you are welcome here — with your questions, your hopes,
and your hunger for God’s Word.
The St. Jerome Catholic Bible Study System was created to help you experience Scripture through a Catholic lens, gently and clearly,
so that study becomes not only information, but encounter.
Begin With the Word
Catholic Scripture study does not have to begin with pressure, confusion, or the feeling that you should already know everything.
Begin with one passage. Read it slowly. Notice the word, phrase, image, or question that rises in your heart. Sometimes the first stepis simply
learning to listen.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
— Matthew 24:35
A Gentle Way to Begin
A good place to begin is Luke 24:13–35, the Road to Emmaus. In this passage, Jesus meets two disciples on the road, listens to their confusion,
and slowly opens the Scriptures to them.
That is the spirit of this work. We do not rush the Word. We walk with it. We ask. We listen. We allow Christ to open our hearts as
He opens the Scriptures.
Five Questions for Prayerful Scripture Study
- What word or phrase stands out to me?
- What is happening in this passage?
- What does this passage reveal about God?
- What might Jesus be inviting me to notice, trust, or change?
- What is this passage calling me to do?
- How does this passage lead me into prayer?
Reading Scripture Through the Heart of the Church
As Catholics, we do not read Scripture apart from the Church. We read the Word of God within the living Tradition of the Church,
with reverence, humility, and trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Catholic Scripture study is not only about gathering information. It is about encounter, formation, prayer, and transformation.
“Where to Go Next”
Every reader comes to Scripture from a different place. Some are opening the Bible for the first time. Some are returning after many years.
Some already love Scripture and are looking for a deeper Catholic rhythm of study and prayer.
These are only a few suggested starting points. You are warmly invited to explore the rest of the site through the menu above,
